Softball

This summer we played softball again. Two nights a week from April to May. It's a lot of fun and a great distraction in the evening. Our team is sponsored by Cheers, the usual bar we go to. And like the TV show, everyone seems to know your name. The best perk is after the game we get a free drink at the bar!

We're a team that knows how to have a good time and doesn't get worked up over little things. This year we played much better then we did last year. Even so we ended up only 8 and 12 on the year. Not a winning season, but a lot of fun.

However, we turn it up for the playoffs. We won our first three playoff games, including beating the second seed by ten runs. Then in our last game we won by forefit because we were ahead by 15 in the 4th inning. Now there's only one game left against the team that was unbeaten all year. We always took them to the 7th inning and they only would win after one good inning. I think we will make a good showing.

Hinkey Summit

Last weekend, Jessica and I went on an ATV ride. It was my first real ride and we covered 60 miles. I think it makes me a little more of a Nevadan now.

It was like riding a laz-y-boy through the back country. The views were spectacular from some of the summits. We stopped at a cabin built way up on the side of the hill that is still used by ranchers to move cattle. It was pretty dusty.

Surprisingly there were still a lot of wildflowers at the summits. They are at 8600 feet. We were gone five or six hours and came back dust covered and a little sunburnt neck. I guess I became more of a redneck.

Blue Lakes

So this weekend Jessica and I got out for Saturday night and went to Blue Lakes.

It is one of the unique things to Nevada. It's actually the remnants of a glacier that formed three different lakes when it melted. We backpacked up Saturday afternoon and had it to ourselves that night. You can see in the pictures the ancient glaciated wall across from us. It was like a little resort all to ourselves. We did a little swimming before dinner and watched a gorgeous sunset.

In the morning we were woken by a family that came in. So we got up and went hiking around the lake. For the afternoon we laid on the rocks next to the water and took it in. That kind of an alpine scene is very unique out here in the desert.
